Well, actually, don't worry. This shop on the boulevard Saint Germain, whose name translates into English as "The House of Vintages" is not at all as snooty as you may have feared. Yes they do have some of the very best Bordeaux vintages ever made but prices range from about one thousand six hundred euros to just six euros for a bottle.
If you're not sure what it is you're looking for, then, again, don't worry on that count either because plenty of customers come in saying "I'm going to a friend's for dinner and I just need something that tastes good" and the very friendly and helpful staff will not only advise you, but chances are they'll speak English too!
I should tell you that this shop is "exclusivement Bordeaux." It doesn't pretend to be anything else, it doesn't try to be (although it does stock a few Burgundies and some Champagnes - which you can buy chilled for immediate consumption - worth knowing...) but the shop does what it does, and it does that very well. However, if you're looking for wines from other regions - especially natural wines - may I point you in the direction of the likes of Les Caves Augé (116 boulevard Haussmann, 75008), spirits to La Maison du Whisky, but if it's Bordeaux you're after, there is really none better than the Maison des Millésimes!
