Walking down the rue de Rochechouart in the early afternoon, the wonderful Nikki Bayley
and I were ambushed by the gorgeous smells coming from La Terrasse du Maubeuge. Without realising it at first, our feet had decided for us that we were going to eat there.
Having been shown to a table en plein soleil, we ordered two glasses of wine and then a tartine au saumon and a cheese omelette. Both very simple dishes, but they were fresh and full of flavour. What the French do best really. They were generous portions, served promptly and at a good price.
However, if you come here, I'd really advise that you come on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday when you can order the couscous dishes. That's what I'm having next time. When a massive bowl of stewed meat and a dish of couscous was brought over to the table near us, it looked and smelt so good that everybody from the nearby tables stopped their conversation and gazed longingly at the new arrival. Mmmm...
